Our Board Of Directors

 

Kids@ Churchill Park has a dedicated and skilled volunteer Board of Directors who remain focused on meeting the needs of families in Calgary as they have for 50 years.  Their focus remains on supporting children emotionally, developmentally and socially; nurturing curious minds, healthy bodies and happy hearts.

Kirsty Sklar – Board Chair

Kirsty is a partner with Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP where she practices corporate and securities law with a focus on corporate financings and mergers and acquisitions. She also regularly assists clients with corporate governance matters.  Kirsty and her family are forever grateful to Churchill Park and their incredible caregivers for the tremendous quality of care and education her daughter and son received at Baby Works.  She is thrilled to be able to give back to Churchill Park to ensure they continue to ignite children’s potential and raise curious kids across Calgary.

Susan Nicoll – Director

Susan Nicoll currently works in Emergency Communications for Calgary 9-1-1. She has worked in a variety of Early Childhood roles throughout her career, including 8 years with Churchill Park and as a Moderator for Alberta Accreditation.

Carol Delong

Carol joined the Board in 2020 and is the Director, Operations at Lead Foundation where she oversees the finance, administration, technology and human resource departments. Carol has extensive non-profit experience having worked with the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre, Mount Royal University and the Province of B.C. As well, Carol has worked in the private sector primarily managing finance and administration for law firms. Carol holds an MBA and brings over 25 years experience in overall business management to the Board.

Scott Hayward

Thuy Nguyen, CPA, CA, Treasurer

Thuy is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) of Canada and currently employed as a Senior Manager of the Risk Consulting practice at KPMG LLP, with specialized focus in Governance, Risk, and Compliance. Thuy has more than 10 years of professional experience and successfully led and managed a variety of projects that include governance management, risk assessment, internal and external audit compliance, and strategy and project managements to help the clients improve their business strategies and controls environment. Thuy has been a member of Board of Directors at Kids@ Churchill Park since February 2020 and is motivated to utilize her experience and knowledge to help establish the vision, mission, and values for the organization as well as many other roles and responsibilities expected of the Board members. With her expertise, Thuy is also a Treasurer and a member of the Governance Committee at Kids@ Churchill Park to bring additional values to the organization.

Vera Blower

Vera is a retired professional with over 40 years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Development and Child Care. Throughout her career, Vera held a broad spectrum of positions from direct child care, working within the education system, family resource programs, community development and positions in licensing and child care with the Governments of Ontario and Alberta. These experiences focused on the ability to work within the parameters of government while bringing front-line perspectives and initiative in in using a solution focused approach to issues and policy development.

One example that highlights her leadership, collaboration, initiative and creativity was her work on Baffin Island as an Early Child Hood Education Instructor for Nunavut. Managing a project of this nature provided experience in addressing cultural, community and individual needs and issues. The result was the delivery of a program that was culturally relevant, skilled individuals and a community that respected the work accomplished.
